Alienware and Cyberpower have announced their new Steam Machines are available for Pre-order. In case you weren't aware, Steam, the online gaming service, has been working on it's own console to compete with XBox One and PS4 consoles. The Steam Machines are basically high-powered PCs running Steam's own version of Linux. Prices start at $449, and the base model will include dual-core Intel Core i3-4130 chips, along with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 500GB hard drive and a (mostly unspecified) NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5 memory. This should most certainly give XBox One and PS4 a run for their money. I say competition in the gaming marketplace is a good thing. You can also order the Steam Controller for about $49 and the new Steam Link which will let you stream games from your current rig to any tv in the house. Pre-ordering may mean that you get your hands on these products a full month before everyone else.
